Letters: Not so balanced budget

The so-called "balanced budget amendment" that was recently voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives would have required federal spending in any given year to be offset by revenues collected in that same year.

Sounds good, right?

This wolf in sheep's clothing of a amendment would have considered our earned Social Security and Medicare benefits as revenue.

The Social Security trust fund is currently at $2.8 trillion. Social Security and Medicare are separate segregated monies. They are not a part of federal revenue. Social Security doesn't add a penny to the federal deficit.

Jaime Herrera-Beutler voted to raid Social Security to pay off the $1.5 trillion deficit that the GOP created by approving tax cuts for billionaires and corporations last year.

Jaime Herrera-Beutler doesn't care about balancing the federal budget, or she wouldn't have created such a gigantic deficit in the first palace.

Vote Herrera-Beutler out!
