Ferguson, Gregoire back 3rd District challenger Carolyn Long's campaign

Congressional candidate Carolyn Long’s campaign announced a pair of high-profile endorsements Tuesday.

The Democrat’s bid for the 3rd Congressional District now has the support of Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson and former Gov. Christine Gregoire, according to a press release.

Long’s “dedication to our constitutional system makes her an ideal candidate to serve as a check on this executive and protect the rights of Southwest Washingtonians,” Ferguson said, referring to President Donald Trump. Ferguson has notched multiple court wins against the U.S. Department of Justice since Trump took office, including a successful legal challenge to the president’s travel ban.

Gregoire praised Long for pragmatism.

“Carolyn’s solutions-minded approach to governing and dedication to helping those who disagree find common ground will make her an effective representative in Congress,” she said.

Long, a Washington State University Vancouver professor, also has endorsements from state Sen. Dean Takko, D-Longview; state Rep. Monica Stonier; Clark County Treasurer Doug Lasher; and former 3rd District Reps. Don Bonker and Brian Baird.

Long is competing against two other Democrats and a Republican to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground. The winners of a top-two primary election on Aug. 7 will advance to the November midterm elections.
