New polling shows the Elect Carolyn Long campaign is picking up momentum and support throughout the district. The initial ballot shows Carolyn Long within striking distance of Jaime Herrera Beutler, only 5 points down (37% to 42%). After hearing positive introductions of both candidates, the race is a statistical tie at 43%.

“We are very excited. The hard work of my team and the grassroots efforts of our 750 volunteers is paying off. It also reflects the energy of the electorate and the desire for change that I have been hearing throughout the district,” Carolyn Long stated.

The poll, conducted by Lake Research Partners on behalf of the Long campaign, was in the field June 14-18 and had a sample size of 500 respondents. A poll of this type has a +/-4.4% margin of error.

“This year is not like years past, and Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler is vulnerable. Carolyn Long’s profile of change and message of fighting for the people of Southwest Washington is clearly resonating with voters – especially independent voters in the district,” said Celinda Lake, President, Lake Research Partners.

Rep. Herrera Beutler’s job performance numbers have also declined since March. Only 37% of voters say she is doing an excellent or good job, compared to 48% who say she is doing just a fair or poor job, down 2% and up 5%, respectively.

“Southwest Washingtonians are tired of being neglected and not having any representation in Congress. They are hungry for change – for true independent leadership, for someone to be accountable to them – not to party leadership, and not to President Trump,” said Long, “Our Representatives sometimes forget who they work for, which is why, if I am elected to represent Washington’s 3rd Congressional district, I will always be present, accountable, and committed to working for the people of Southwest Washington.”

Carolyn Long is endorsed by former WA CD-03 Representatives Brian Baird and Don Bonker, Attorney General Bob Ferguson, former Governor Christine Gregoire, the National Women’s Political Caucus, American Federation of Teachers - WA, AFSCME Council 28, the Clark County Democratic Women, the Klickitat County Democrats, the Young Democrats of Washington, the Young Democrats of Clark County, Laborers International Union of North America Local 335, NW Carpenters Local 146, Washington & Idaho District Council of Laborers, and many more.

For 23 years, Carolyn Long has taught thousands of Southwest Washington’s young leaders while serving as a professor at WSU-Vancouver. Students there have taken her classes in American institutions, public law, American public policy and public civility.
