A letter recently sent to the Observer from a Camas resident suggested that Carolyn Long, one of the Democratic congressional candidates from our district “self-identifies as a moderate.” That’s not the Carolyn Long I have become familiar with during the past several months as I have studied her website (www.electlong.com), attended a candidates forum in Raymond, attended two local Carolyn Long town hall meetings, one in Long Beach and one in Raymond, and attended her campaign kick-off event in Vancouver along with hundreds of other boisterous supporters.
I believe the three Democrats in this race embrace the same progressive values many of us hold dear, but I feel strongly that Carolyn is by far the most “electable” and is the most capable of defeating the incumbent, Jaime Herrera Beutler, in November.
Carolyn is a leader who knows how to listen and how to get things done. She has a wonderful combination of work ethic, intellect, compassion and determination required to be a great representative for the 3rd Congressional District. If you’re not registered to vote you still have time. Please check out Carolyn’s website and consider lending your support with a vote for her in the Aug. 7 primary. If given the opportunity to serve in Congress she will make a tremendous difference for our district and our country.
