Let me tell you about last week’s Town Meeting with Carolyn Long.
I sort of felt like I had made her up. You know… fantasized a person who could be the perfect candidate to run for office against our current representative to Congress. And there she was last Saturday in Ilwaco — Carolyn Long at a town meeting talking to 40 or 50 of us, not only answering our questions but explaining some of the whys and wherefores about our broken system of checks and...

Despite the discord in politics today, there are many things the people in our district can agree on.
• Healthcare. We all need it and it’s too expensive without some form of coverage.
• Prescription drugs. Most of us would agree that the drug companies gouge us, especially when the same drugs we buy here are 50 to 100 percent cheaper in Canada.
• Social Security and Medicare. Many of us couldn’t survive without them and many more will need them...

Generally the mid-term elections are a ho-hum affair, and even more so the primaries before the midterms. But this year due to a divisive and destructive president, the Dems are coming out in force to let their voices be heard. Our voter turn-out for the primary in Pacific County was a relatively impressive 56 percent. Not only that but there are two U.S. House Representative seats in Washington state that could well be flipped to deserving Democratic candidates. Lots of folks are jazzed about...

County voters endorsed incumbents Sheriff Scott Johnson and Prosecutor Mark McClain to face Shoalwater Bay Police Chief Robin Souvenir and private attorney Pamela Nogueira Maneman, respectively.
In Washington’s top-two primary system, the two...

A letter recently sent to the Observer from a Camas resident suggested that Carolyn Long, one of the Democratic congressional candidates from our district “self-identifies as a moderate.” That’s not the Carolyn Long I have become familiar with during the past several months as I have studied her website (www.electlong.com), attended a candidates forum in Raymond, attended two local Carolyn Long town hall meetings, one in Long Beach and one in Raymond, and attended her campaign...

Yes, it may be earlier than we want to begin thinking about mid-term politics, but the Parkland students have gotten us off to a booming start on election season. This past weekend “March for Our Lives” took place in Washington, D.C., and in hundreds of other towns both large and small all across the world from Paris, France to Astoria, Oregon.
At Place de Trocadero within sight of the Eiffel Tower, the demonstration “Paris Stands With Parkland” took place...
